First Time Home Buyer Series: Mom Tips

As a mom of 2 young kids, I know how challenging it can be to get out and do things like go grocery shopping, let alone going house to house searching for your next home. Being a parent can be tough sometimes because kids take up a lot of your attention.

Here are some tips on how to make the home shopping process a little bit easier with little kids.

1. Bring Snacks and Beverages

As a parent you probably already know how kids are always asking for snacks and how snacks can magically turn a full blown tantrum monster into a quiet little angel.

You probably don’t want your kid to be constantly asking you for a snack when you’re trying to determine whether the home you’re seeing is a good fit for you.

Be prepared and bring enough snacks for the day along with a drink. Water is probably your safest bet in case of spilling.

2. Quick on and off footwear

Usually when you go looking at homes, your Realtor will have a few homes lined up to go see all in one go. To make the process just a bit easier, it would be best to have your family wear really quick and easy on and off footwear. Getting the kids packed up and ready to go is already quite a task on its own, so choosing the right footwear will help trim down the time in-between homes.

3. Bring Entertainment

Sometimes being in a place having waiting for grown ups to finish talking so we can move on can hard as a little kid. Being sure you bring some kind of entertainment that won’t accidentally be destructive to someone else’s property. I like to load up the iPad with some downloaded shows like Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig, PJ Masks, or whatever they’re into. Having kids not demanding for your attention will make it easier to pick out details and make a decision on a home.
